PROJECT: Nationwide VAI (Vulnerability, Access and Inclusion) e‑Learning

About the project:

VAI is an important topic within financial services. Vulnerable individuals may face challenges accessing essential services or resources due to their circumstances (or change in circumstances). Ensuring that vulnerable individuals have access to essential services and resources is crucial for their well-being and inclusion. Inclusion goes beyond simple access and aims to create environments where vulnerable individuals feel welcome, respected, and valued.

Nationwide Building Society wished to update their VAI training to make it more interactive, engaging and memorable. This training package was one of a set of modules that utilised animation and storytelling techniques to tell the stories of VAI personas, and then engage the learner by getting them to make decisions about what they would do to help the individual.

Services provided:

Running of training design sessions with client SMEs to create training objectives, create personas, stories and gather best-practice techniques for VAI. The modules were then storyboarded for SME review and sign-off before development began. Then all design and development of the modules including animation, narration, graphic design, video editing and final production of the training packages using Articulate Storyline.

Title screen

Nationwide Building Society branches all had a branded look and feel for their interior design. This interior design was drawn and re-created in an animated environment.

The host

A virtual host was created who would be the guide throughout each module. This host would narrate and explain each part to 'teach' the course.

Storytelling with personas

The host would introduce people with VAI needs.

Animated sections to tell the story with personas and a member of staff.

The learner had to make decisions after watching part of the story. This could change the outcome of the story.

Case studies

Case studies were also used for quiz elements.

The learner makes decisions based on the case study.
